This video from MultiHousing News TV explains how the practice of green building labeling is set to expand among multifamily and commercial properties. LEED certification has been discussed on the WaterWatch blog in previous entries as one type of valuable certification for buildings to obtain. In this interview, Doug Walker states that it’s not necessary for all buildings to focus on qualifying for specific labels at this point, as long as properties are at least beginning to  implement energy efficient practices.

While submetering is an excellent way to conserve energy and reduce costs, WaterWatch suggests that multifamily and commercial properties additionally consider vacant unit cost recovery, carbon emissions reporting, and energy procurement services to further monitor their energy usage.
